Charles R. Watling

Charles R. Watling, 62, is Vice President Engineering and Technical Services of BWAY Corporation, a leading North American supplier of general line metal and rigid plastic containers.

Charlie was named to his current position in 2005 and has been overseeing his company’s engineering activities for more than a decade. Today, this includes wide range of responsibility such as structural productivity initiatives, plant expansions, closures and consolidations, and Greenfield projects. His teams manage mold and tooling procurement and standardization, and capital equipment procurement, installation and optimization. They direct planning, organizing and monitoring preventive maintenance, and technical support for plant operations. Additionally, among many other responsibilities, Charlie’s team compiles, issues and updates product specifications, standards and procedures; and manages regulatory compliance.

He has spent over 30 years in the Packaging industry. During his career, he has continually gained experience with increasing responsibilities, including serving as Manufacturing Operations Manager for Southcorp Packaging USA, Operations Manager for Southcorp Water Heaters in Australia and as Plant Engineer for Containers Packaging in Australia. He also worked for The Metal Box Company in both South Africa and England in various capacities including production management and engineering.

Charlie has collaborated on and holds patents for several inventions, and has worked on four continents in Australia, England, South Africa and the United States.

He has a post-graduate degree in Operations Management from the University of Technology in Sydney, Australia, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Production Engineering from Medway College of Technology in Kent, England. Additionally, he completed the Kellogg Executive Development Program in general management at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois.
